Custom Copper Logo Plate for Custom Components

Overview

A custom copper logo plate is produced by photochemical machining, a low-stress route that images the artwork — lettering, logotype, borders and fine detail — onto dry-film resist laminated to copper sheet, then dissolves the unprotected metal to leave a crisp recessed or relief design. Etch depth, line width and edge sharpness are governed by the film and etch dwell rather than engraving-tool pressure, so fine strokes, serifs and small text stay faithful to the artwork with no tool marks, burrs or mechanical distortion. Typical substrates are C1100 / T2 (ETP) pure copper in 0.3–1.5 mm gauges, and both recessed and raised patterns are cut from the same digital master.

For brand and product buyers, a custom copper logo plate solves three recurring problems. Pure copper is soft and gummy, so stamping or rotary engraving drags the edge, deforms thin strokes and wears tooling quickly; premium plaques need recess depths of 0.1–0.3 mm and stroke widths down to 0.10 mm that are hard to hold with a mechanical cutter; and copper tarnishes, so the visible face must be protected without losing detail. Chemical machining forms the entire design at one time, keeping depth and line fidelity consistent from first article through volume, while the recess can be filled with enamel or left bright under a clear coat. New artwork needs only a new film.

Parameter Window

  • Available Materials: C1100 / T2 (ETP) pure copper, C110; also brass and bronze for mixed decorative builds
  • Material Thickness Range: 0.3–1.5 mm (common 0.5 / 0.8 / 1.0 mm)
  • Tolerance: ±0.03 mm on stroke width, ±0.05 mm on outline, ±0.02 mm on etch depth
  • Minimum Feature: 0.10 mm line/stroke width, 0.15 mm isolated dot, 0.20 mm recess
  • Surface Options: mirror polish, satin brushing, nickel/chrome/gold plating, antiquing & patina, enamel fill, protective lacquer
  • Compliance: ISO 9001 process control, RoHS/REACH material traceability

Manufacturing Process / Workflow (8 Steps)

  1. Artwork & Nesting — Convert the logo to vector art, set recess/relief areas, verify minimum stroke, and plan panel layout with registration marks.
  2. Material Certification & Prep — Confirm copper grade, temper and thickness, inspect for scratches and flatness, then shear to exposure size.
  3. Cleaning & Lamination — Degrease and laminate dry-film resist under matched heat and pressure so no bubbles sit under fine strokes.
  4. UV Exposure — Expose through high-resolution film with the artwork registered to the sheet edge for panel-level consistency.
  5. Development — Wash out unexposed resist to open the recess areas and inspect for residue that would block etching.
  6. Controlled Etching — Spray copper-matched chemistry, tuning time, temperature and conveyor speed to hold recess depth and protect fine detail.
  7. Stripping & Finishing — Remove resist, neutralize, then polish, plate, antique or enamel-fill and apply protective lacquer.
  8. Inspection & Packaging — Check stroke fidelity, recess depth and finish on a vision system, then interleave and pack in clean trays.

Core Advantages

  1. Burr-free fine detail: Chemical removal leaves clean, sharp strokes with no tool marks, so small text and serifs stay legible.
  2. No die cost: Each new logo is a new film, keeping prototypes, limited runs and frequent artwork changes economical.
  3. Warm premium finish: Copper accepts plating, patina and enamel fill, giving plaques a depth of finish that printed or stamped metal cannot match.
  4. Repeatable recess depth: Controlled etch dwell holds 0.1–0.3 mm recesses consistently across a panel for even enamel fill or two-tone contrast.
  5. Stress-free flatness: With no shear or engraving force, soft copper stays flat, so plaques mount flush without bowing.
  6. Fast artwork tuning: With a custom copper logo plate, stroke width, recess depth and finish can be tuned item by item to a brand specification.

Typical Applications

  • Brand plaques: Logo and wordmark plates for equipment, furniture and consumer goods.
  • Equipment nameplates: Serial, rating and identification plates with fine etched text.
  • Badges and emblems: Club, uniform and commemorative badges with recessed two-tone detail.
  • Architectural signage: Wayfinding, door and donor plaques that exploit copper's appearance.
  • Luxury packaging trim: Decorative inlays and medallions for premium boxes and bottles.
  • Instrument panels: Control-panel and dial labels where crisp small characters matter.

Design Notes & Process Considerations

  1. Minimum stroke and depth: Keep stroke width above roughly 0.10 mm and recess depth below half the sheet thickness to avoid undercut and loss of detail.
  2. Artwork callout: Supply vector artwork, state recess vs relief, etch depth and text height, and define the finish stack rather than only a logo file.
  3. Grade and temper: Choose C1100 / T2 for color and formability or half-hard temper for stiffness, and note the material standard and certificate needs.
  4. Nesting and tie bars: Leave enough tie bars and process borders, and specify the final cut method so thin strokes and isolated dots survive stripping.
  5. Thin-sheet handling: For sheet below 0.5 mm, specify a carrier or liner and call out flatness and cleanliness to avoid dents and fingerprints.
  6. Finish and tarnish control: With a custom copper logo plate, define plating, patina, enamel and clear-coat requirements, especially for handled or outdoor parts.
